Ink's Middle of the Map Fest – held annually in various venues and locations around Kansas City – curates and cultivates the unique arts and creative culture of the Midwest by bringing together a sense of community in local and national talent in an annual festival featuring music, ideas and film. The Music Fest is curated by Nathan Reusch (The Record Machine) and Chris Haghirian (Ink Magazine).
Situation
The Middle of the Map Fest is a multi-day (10 days), multi-venue (20 separate locations) and multi-focus festival (music, films, and speakers). Bringing organization and facilitating discovery for an event of this nature was the biggest challenge.

Mission accomplished...
“Each year, Middle of the Map has grown in size and reputation, attracting a five-star roster of well-known bands and performers. This year’s lineup was no different. But this year’s festival was equally significant because it not only showcased many of the excellent bands and musicians from around Kansas City, it brought thousands of fans downtown and showed off what should become another thriving live-music district.”
— Timothy Finn, Kansas City Star
A mess of a weekend...
“We saw an eclectic group of bands, dozens of people we never would have considered seeing live – but ended up loving – and enjoyed over-stimulation of every sense while trying to navigate The Crossroads District for festival shows during Kansas City’s increasingly popular First Fridays event.”
— Meredith Schneider, The Moshery
All worth it...
“Seeing big and small, local and national acts celebrate a successful weekend, and help grow what is already becoming a community of musicians and fans that is a force to reckon with, Middle Of The Map Fest is out to show the nation that Kansas City should be recognized for more than just the Royals or the Chiefs, but our music scene too.”
